Water Environment Federation (WEF) Student Chapter Formed

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Utah is proud to announce the formation of the new Water Environment Federation (WEF) Student Chapter. This will be the first student chapter for the Water Environment Association of Utah (WEAU). The effort was initiated by Dr. Ramesh Goel (University of Utah), Assistant Professor at the department and Tania Datta (University of Utah), PhD candidate and guided by Matt Myers (CH2M HILL), former WEAU Student Activities Chair and Present Membership Committee Chair. The chapter will serve as a professional society dedicated to promote both undergraduate and graduate student interests in the field of water and environmental engineering and provide an avenue for the exchange of information and ideas between the chapter members and the Member Association serving WEAU and the WEF. The chapter was formally formed on the 7th of September 2007, where officers were elected and activities for the semester were decided. Tania Datta was elected as the inaugural President of the Chapter. The chapter already has more than 12 members and expects to grow in the coming semesters and plans to participate actively with undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Utah with activities such as FE review sessions, interdisciplinary research discussion groups, seminars and talks from academic and industrial professional and social meets.

The success of this Student Chapter is shared by WEAU, as it will promote the mission of our organization in an academic environment and serve as a mechanism to recruit and develop future leaders of WEAU.
