WEAU Representing USU Student Design Team Places 2nd

Representing our own WEAU, the USU design team placed 2nd place at this year's national WEFTEC conference in Los Angeles.  Congratulations Team!  More details to come...

WEAU Cleanup Day at the Legacy Nature Preserve

The Cleanup Day is in conjunction with the Legacy Nature Preserve and held as part of the Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup Day, aka “World’s Largest Trash Cleanup Day.”  All WEAU members and their families are welcome (although no dogs).  The event is organized by the Legacy Nature Preserve with assistance from the WEAU Young Professionals.  Lunch provided for those who have pre-registered.

$10 per person payable to WEAU by August 15th to reserve your ticket.  Send $ to Dustin Hansen.

Lyle S. Ford 10/22/1928 ~ 6/10/2011 

"Lyle S. Ford, wonderful husband and father, business man and friend, passed away June 10, 2011 at his home in Salt Lake City. He was born October 22, 1928 in Park City, Utah and lived in Wallsburg, Utah where his family had a farm. He attended grade school in Wallsburg, Wasatch High School in Heber City and graduated from Utah State University majoring in Chemistry and Microbiology..." (click for the full article)

"An Institution:  an organization, establishment, foundation, society, or the like, devoted to the promotion of a particular cause or program."  Lyle Ford was a Water Quality Institution in Utah.  As one of the founding members of the Water Environment Association of Utah, Lyle promoted the water quality industry when it was still called the sewer and people thought you were crazy to work there.   Lyle founded Ford Labs and provided quality laboratory services to many facilities across Utah.  Lyle was always available for chat if anyone had a question and would offer advice and help when technical supported was needed.  Lyle served as a board member and chair of both Salt Lake City Suburban Sanitary District #1 and Central Valley Water Reclamation Facility where he continued to build the profession.  Lyle was always furthering his knowledge of the sciences associated with the water quality industry and could be seen at every training available.  Lyle will be missed and always remembered.

JBWRF Facility Tour - No Better Way to Celebrate Cinco De Mayo

Young Professionals and Students Facility Tour!

Thursday, May 5th, Noon to 1:30  

 

At 15.0 MGD the new Jordan Basin Water Reclamation Facility (JBWRF) is one of largest MBR facilities in the Country.  The JBWRF is comprised of several structures including; influent pump station, headworks building, process basins and buildings, disinfection buildings, maintenance building, dewatering building, electrical building and administration building. The maintenance and administration building have both been registered with the US Green Building Council for LEED Certified accreditation. 

 

Construction on the new facility began in August 2009 and start-up is slated to begin in August 2011 with substantial completion following in April 2012.The total project contract was over $91 million.

  

The AWWA Young Professionals (YP) Committee is planning this tour for Thursday, May 5th at noon and they have kindly invited WEAU Young Professionals and Students as well.  Please meet on-site (13826 S. Jordan Basin Lane (1300 West)) and bring a hard hat, safety vest and glasses, and leather boots as they will be required while on the site.  There will be some hats and vests available at the site, but supplies are very limited so, please bring your own to wear.
