VICE PRESIDENT

    Jill Houston:

I have enjoyed working with everyone in the wastewater industry for the past eight years while working at Central Davis Sewer District. The industry is developing rapidly and Utah can be at the forefront of technology with the help of the State, local POTW's and WEAU through sharing information. I look forward to the challenges ahead of us.

SECRETARY-TREASURER

    Dru Whitlock:

I am a geeky wastewater engineer who works for CH2M HILL. Originally from Indiana and working in the preventive medicine profession, cardiac rehabilitation, I moved to Utah in 1992 and began my schooling/career in engineering. I have a B.S. in Exercise Physiology from Ball State University (1989), a B.S. in Environmental Engineering from Utah State University (1997), and an MBA from University of Utah (2004).

I have served WEAU in the following roles:

      • WEAU Young Professionals Committee Chair
      • WEAU Membership Committee Chair
      • WEAU Mid-year Conference Technical Program Lead
      • Most recently, WEAU Pre-Conference Workshop Committee Chair
  • In my spare time, which is becoming very sparse, I "enjoy" x-country skiing in the winter and road and mountain biking in the summer. No one quite knows why I have chosen a profession where I am regularly pummeled and then pummel myself in my spare time, but perhaps all of this self-flagellation will pay off after I expire. I am the proud father of Reese (5) and Ewan (2), who paradoxically drive me crazy and simultaneously make me very happy. My wife, Jennifer, is the most loving and patient person a guy could hope for. All told, I am a very lucky man, indeed. I would be most pleased to serve as the WEAU Secretary Treasurer.

DIRECTOR A

    Kerry S. Eppich:

I have been with Salt Lake City Suburban Sanitary District #1 for 13 years. I started as the Controller and have been the General Manager for the past two years. I have also been active in WEAU and have a great desire to continue this ssociation and serve on the board so as to provide any help that I can to enhance the Association. I am the father of 6 boys ranging in age from 17 to 4. I love golfing, hunting and camping with my family.

    Lee Rawlings:

I am currently working as the laboratory director at South Valley WRF. I have approximately 20 years experience working in the wastewater industry in various laboratories. I have served on the WEAU Laboratory Committee for the last eight years and as part of the committee I have been an instructor for various trainings and have supported the Operators Challenge as participant and judge. I believe that through WEAU we can share our individual experience to increase the level of expertise of local wastewater professionals.

    Paul Krauth:

I am a native Utahn, born and raised in Salt Lake City. After a long and undistinguished career as a professional student earning three engineering degrees (a geek cubed), I went to work for the Utah Division of Water Quality in 1989. I worked for two and a half years in the UPDES permits program, writing discharge permits; during this time I also was involved with pretreatment, sludge and storm-water issues. In September 1992, I began working as the Outreach Coordinator for the Division. In this capacity I am involved in providing technical and operational assistance to all of Utah's wastewater facilities. Additionally I perform the process reviews for all proposed wastewater facilities within the State. I hold wastewater certifications in small lagoons systems, grade IV collection, and grade IV treatment. I am also a licensed professional engineer in the state of Utah, and was the 5 time winner of the clean lunch plate award at Hillview Elementary.

DIRECTOR B

    Mark Ogren:

I have worked for Provo City's Water Reclamation Facility for twenty seven years. I have held several positions throughout my career. I started my Waste Water Treatment career as a Plant Operator, then transferred to the Maintenance Department. I was later recruited to the City's Pretreatment Coordinator where I regulated local industrial dischargers. For the last eleven years I have been Provo's Water Reclamation Plant Manager, overseeing our 21 MGD advanced activated sludge and tertiary Treatment Plant. I graduated from Provo High School and later received advanced education at Utah Valley State College in Public Administration. I have instructed and participated in numerous environments technology seminars and workshops and completed extended learning programs from California State University Water Programs which include; Advanced Waste Treatment, Pretreatment Facility Inspection, Treatment of Industrial Waste I & II, and Utility Management.

I have been a member of the Water Environment Association of Utah for eighteen years and have held various positions within the WEAU committees including the Pretreatment and Biosolids. I currently hold a Grade IV Treatment and Grade IV Collections, State of Utah Wastewater System Operator Certifications. I am also currently the President for Provo City's Employee Association, and have served three years on the employees Unclassified Civil Service Appeals Board. I and my wife Gina live in Provo were we've raised our two daughters and son. We enjoy outdoor activities including camping. Our passion is traveling the country enjoying the scenery and visiting new areas.

    Ramesh Goel:

I, Dr. Ramesh Goel, graduated with a PhD in Environmental Engineering from the University of South Carolina in 2003. Thereafter, I went for my Post Doctoral training at the University of Wisconsin in the area of biological phosphorus removal and its microbiology. My research solves real time problems related to nutrients in surface and wastewater. My final objective is to establish protocols in my lab and then transfer these protocols to wastewater community, plant managers and plant operators for their long term and efficient use.. As a WEAU board member, if selected, I would continue doing the community outreach. I strongly feel that inputs from wastewater community are necessary to modify the existing regulations or develop new guidelines by State or Federal regulatory agencies. I want to create a bridge between water and wastewater practitioners and state regulators through my outreach program, workshops and research and presents these activities through WEAU meetings. I believe in "If there is any magic in this world, this is in water. Let us preserve it, protect it and use it efficient".

I have taught seminars offered by UVSC's Environmental Technology department for approximately 6 years and really enjoy sharing what knowledge I do have with others. I am married and have 4 children.
